HPI Works Challenge 2005 in Thailand The "HPI Works Challenge 2005 in Thailand" was held at the RCS track on December 24, 2005, and ATSUSHI HARA, one of the fastest and strongest driver in the world, SURIKARN CHAIDAJSURIYA, a hero in Thailand, and MASAYUKI MIURA, a top driver and superior mechanic, participated in the event. Just like many countries in the world, HPI/HB are very popular in Thailand. We limited cars for the stock class to HPI/HB cars, while the modified class was open to any brand. In Thailand RC racing is as popular as in Japan and world-class drivers and future champions are competing with each other. The practice session already suggested high-level races in the event. The temperature was lower than usual in December, but the lowest temperature was still above 25 degrees Celsius. For Japanese drivers, it was a nice break from the harsh winter in Japan. The setting advice session for Pro 4 and Cyclone drivers was one of the major attractions of the event and many drivers gathered around ATSUSHI HARA and SURIKARN during the session. ATSUSHI HARA and SURIKARN participated in the both Stock and Modified Classes to race with as many drivers as possible. SURIKARN used the Cyclone in the both classes, while ATSUSHI HARA used the Cyclone in the Modified Class and the Pro 4 in the Stock Class. It seems all drivers, whether they like belt-drive system or shaft-drive system, used the works drivers' setting advice MEEN from Thailand gathered great attention in the event. He won the championships in the both EP Pro and GP Pro Classes of the HPI Challenge All Asia Finals 2005 to become the fastest driver in Asia. It was his first official race after achieving the great result in the FEMCA. MEEN was well prepared to compete head-on against world champions in the Modified Class. In the Stock Class qualifying, SURIKARN took TQ, followed by ATSUSHI HARA and KARN, one of the fastest drivers in Thailand. Winning the both first and third rounds in the Stock Class finals, SURIKARN won the championship! ATSUSHI HARA, who was third in the first and second rounds and first in the third round, finished in second place overall. KARN came in second in all three rounds and finished in third place overall. In the Modified Class, ATSUSHI HARA won TQ in style, showing no fatigue from a series of race events overseas. MEEN finished sixth in the qualifying and everyone was eager to see how he would improve his position in the finals. Having retired after his car crashed near the drivers' stand in the first round, ATSUSHI HARA showed great strength in the second and third rounds and won the championship in the end! After finishing second in the qualifying, PAPHON came in first in the first round, second in the second round and third in the third round of the finals to win second place overall. SURIKARN was third overall, followed by MEEN, the champion of the HPI Challenge All Asia Finals 2005. The HPI Works Challenge in Thailand has become an annual event to be held in December. Thai people are good at enjoying races. It was quite impressive to see them participating in the event with fighting spirit, appreciation to their fellows and admiration for their rivals in mind. The youngest driver in the event was only five years old and he was stretching his legs on the drivers' stand and driving his car so well. We believe the future of the RC industry in Thailand will be even brighter. |
