The M1B comes very well presented. The main cardboard packaging has a smart modern design, out of this thick cardboard box slides a plastic package with some of the main components of the M1B clearly visible. Just below this is a large cardboard box which contains the rest of the parts in labelled bags.

From this early stage it seems Team magic have already separated themselves from other manufacturers. No serious racer wants a ready-to-run model, this would just take up time, a racer would have to drain all the oils from the shocks and differentials, change all the suspension geometry etc. Team Magic has used some ingenuity here, they’ve pre built the shocks and the diffs, however left them dry. They’ve provided the right oils however, allowing you to fill them up with these or your own oils for a personalised setup. All of this means you save a lot of time yet still get your ideal setup, very clever indeed!
Another thing that jumps out at this stage is the screw box. Team magic has supplied a screw box with all the correct dividers for the screws. This makes the build exceptionally easy, and also proves to be valuable trackside with spare screws. Even the manual boasts quality, a beautifully embossed cover sheet with detailed diagrams and text throughout.

Logically the manual starts the build with the front of the buggy. As mentioned previously the differentials come pre-built but dry, therefore it’s simply a case of filling up with oil and they are done. Team Magic have a unique feature here that allows adjustment of the diff by tightening of a grub screw. This is for more minor adjustments, and is obviously much quicker then changing oils.I’m setting up the M1B as per the manuals base settings, this will give me a good starting point.
As with a lot of the moulded plastic parts on the M1B, the gearbox covers are supplied already cut out of the webbing. This is another time saving concept, but also means all the plastic parts have a high quality finish. Few manufacturers do this, but it’s a real time saver and adds to the quality. Throughout the build only a small number of the components are still in their webbing.
The front differential fits in the gearbox very nicely, and the box is sealed with just a few screws from the top, this will save considerable time in the future when accessing the diffs. The fit of the plastic parts is precise, and overall feel of the gearboxes are rigid and tough. The thick steel hinge pins slide through the wishbones very easily, Team Magic have reamed the wishbones to ensure there is no friction between the wishbone and hinge pins.

The rear gearbox assembly is similar quite similar to the front. Assembling the rear of the car we get the first look at the one piece wing mount. Certainly one of the more unique and recognisable features of the buggy, the one piece wing mount feels like it can easily stand up to the abuse it will undoubtedly experience.
As with the front, thick (4mm) hinge pins are used to secure the wishbones between two high quality 7075 alloy plates. The hubs and wishbones have a nice smooth movement, yet again emphasising the quality in the manufacture of this buggy. Now we get to look at the chassis before we mount the front and rear gearbox. As with a lot of components this is machined to a high standard from 7075 alloy. For those who may not know, 7075 is the highest grade Aluminium alloy that you can feasibly use in RC, having high strength for very low weight.
Simply using a lightweight material for the chassis was not enough for Team Magic however, they’ve milled out parts to save even more weight. They’ve kept the bottom of the chassis completely smooth though, with all screws (countersunk) fitting flush with the surface. This ensures smooth travel over rough terrain. The front and rear gearboxes sit in recesses in the chassis plate, the differentials are heavy so keeping them low really helps keep the buggy’s centre of gravity down.

The centre differential gives us the first look at the M1B’s unique braking system. A shaft sits at the bottom of both sides of the housing. These act as cam shafts, as then they are caused to rotate they move out a block engaging the brake. The whole process feels very precise. The brake discs themselves are what you would expect to find as an expensive option, not a standard component. Well machined vented discs with high quality pads to match.
The radio tray consists of a high quality carbon fibre plate with plastic mounts for both servos, and individual plastic housings for both the receiver and the receiver battery. The M1B uses a flat battery pack rather then the more conventional hump packs, this keeps the centre of gravity right down. Both servos are configured in a lay-down position as well to further maintain the low centre of gravity. The rotating parts of the linkages are ballraced, consequently there is virtually no resistance to movement. The whole unit is a true radio tray as well, it is held in place with 3 R-Clips allowing quick removal for cleaning and servo access

独一无二的刹车及中波箱设计

一体化设计,快速拆除电子系统

By this stage the buggy is almost complete. The pre-built shock absorbers just require filling up with oil. These are then mounted to the buggy, a plastic cover is then applied to the front shocks to protect them from any major impacts. The shock absorbers are unusually mounted from the side, reducing their height by around 10mm and reducing the shock towers height by 20-25mm. This huge height saving really helps keep the buggy low down! The fuel tank is one of the M1B’s most distinguishable features, as it sits in the middle of the buggy. Although the fuel tanks centre of gravity is not dead centre, it’s a lot closer to the centre then any previous buggy, and is mounted again with just three R-clips for easy removal.
The final two stages left are the body shell and the wing. The wing mounts with two metal shafts and a large R clip, making adjustments very easy. The bodyshell was painted by Laurence Mandeville (keep an eye out for user loll996 on eBay for more of his shells) in a style that really suits the M1B with Team Magic’s main colours. To the bodyshell we add the unique cover that gives us access to the fuel tank. Now we can enjoy the M1B in its fully built glory:
